National Homeless Data Fellowship

Community Technology Alliance is pleased to collaborate with Tableau Foundation to ask:

    How might standard data about homelessness be used to develop solutions for ending poverty and homelessness?
The goal of the Fellowship is to bring together a nationwide network of data enthusiasts to develop tools based on standard data already being collected by communities across the country. The tools will be used by communities to understand homelessness in their community and develop data-driven strategies for solving homelessness and ending poverty.

Progress During Q1 (9/1/2015 – 11/30/2015)

  • Launched a nationwide competitive recruitment process to identify data fellows
  • Selected fellows and alternates from 10 communities
  • Held a successful Tableau Fundamentals training in Chicago, IL
  • Held remote meetings with fellows about fellowship project and story/dashboard ideas
  • Participated in DataDive with DataKind
  • Worked with ServingLynk partner to develop method for uploading community data to be used for fellowship project

Upcoming in Q2 (12/1/2015 – 2/28/2016)

  • Identify story/dashboard projects
  • Selected fellows and alternates from 10 communities
  • Create project teams for story/dashboard projects
  • Work with ServingLynk to put finishing touches on HMISLynk
  • Begin work of project teams developing story/dashboards
  • Advanced Tableau Training
